June 12: A Day Dedicated to Buying Local in Quebec
June 12 has officially become a day dedicated to supporting local
purchasing in Quebec. The initiative, “On June 12, I Buy a Quebec
Product”, encourages consumers to choose at least one product
that is made, processed, or designed in the province.

Launched in 2025 by Les Produits du Québec and Aliments du Québec, with the support of the Government of Quebec, the initiative was created to encourage purchases from local businesses and raise awareness of the economic impact of consumer spending choices.
The concept is intentionally simple: purchase at least one Quebec-made product on June 12. Whether it is a food item, clothing, beauty product, furniture, or everyday household equipment, the goal is to highlight the businesses that manufacture and process products locally.
The initiative builds on the work of two well-established certification organizations in Quebec. Founded in 1996, Aliments du Québec certifies the origin of food products made in Quebec. Les Produits du Québec, established in 2021 and launched its certification marks in 2022, focuses on non-food products. Together, these organizations help consumers more easily identify products that genuinely originate from Quebec.
The dedicated day comes at a time when economic sovereignty, supply chain resilience, and support for local businesses are increasingly important topics in public discussions. According to the organizers, buying local is a practical way to strengthen economic activity, sustain jobs across Quebec’s regions, and support the growth of Quebec-based companies.
Following its first edition in 2025, the event is intended to become an annual tradition. Businesses, retailers, and consumers are encouraged to share the initiative on social media and showcase locally made products throughout the day.
Beyond the one-day campaign, the initiative aims to remind consumers of the important role local purchasing plays in Quebec’s economy and to encourage the long-term integration of Quebec-made products into everyday buying habits.
