This figure covers both technical roles and management and executive positions. <br>The conclusion is clear: employer demand will significantly exceed the supply of specialized graduates, with only <strong>47.8% <\/strong>of these positions expected to be filled by candidates with directly relevant educational backgrounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the Canadian side, the situation is even more strained.<br>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/fpsc-ctac.com\/\">Food Processing Skills Canada<\/a>, the food and beverage industry will need to recruit approximately 100,000 additional workers &#8211; nearly one-third of its current workforce &#8211; by <strong>2030<\/strong> to support its growth and replace retiring employees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">United States: A <strong>manufacturing industry<\/strong> under <strong>pressure<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In <strong>July 2025<\/strong>, the U.S. manufacturing sector still reported approximately <strong>437,000 unfilled positions<\/strong> (a vacancy rate of 3.3%), with a concentration in maintenance, quality assurance, and mid-level management roles within agri-food plants. <br>By <strong>2033<\/strong>, U.S. manufacturers may need <strong>3.8 million new employees<\/strong>, with up to 1.9 million positions potentially remaining unfilled without new attraction and training strategies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Canada: Sector growth driven by <strong>certain markets<\/strong>, weakened by <strong>talent retirements<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Beverage manufacturing will lead growth in Canada, with a projected <strong>16% increase<\/strong> in employment between <strong>2022<\/strong> and <strong>2030<\/strong>, rising from <strong>50,000 to 57,000<\/strong> <strong>workers<\/strong> in this sub-sector alone. <br>Bakeries and tortilla processing will follow closely with notable growth. Conversely, dairy products show a more modest trajectory, while meat remains stable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One figure highlights the scale of the demographic challenge: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>24%<\/strong> of Canada\u2019s food processing workforce is between <strong>55 and 64 years old<\/strong> and will be eligible for retirement within the next ten years. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite its economic weight &#8211; <strong>2% of national GDP<\/strong> &#8211; the industry represents only 0.3% of establishments in Canada.
